Overview
This technique provides pain relief and can restore motion by relaxing contracted muscles, stimulating the stretch reflex and improving both blood and lymphatic circulation. Myofascial massage can also help to realign the body and assist in restoring proper posture. The effects of a myofascial massage will vary greatly depending on the techniques used and the areas being treated.
Gentle sustained pressure is used to treat damaged or restrictive tightness in connective tissue. Unlike deep tissue massage, superficial or deep fascial work isn’t solely dependent on the amount of pressure used but rather on the structures being targeted.
